Report summary

The latest update in this series of reports summarises the trends which were evident at the European fabric fairs for the autumn/winter 2013/14 season. Despite the uncertain economic outlook, there was a positive air at the fairs and one of excitement.

The author of the report visited Munich Fabric Start, Première Vision and Milano Unica where she interviewed exhibitors and found out first-hand which trends are proving to be the most popular.

Demand for luxury fabrics is still strong, and European manufacturers have been making exceptional creative efforts to meet that demand. A multitude of different surface effects are being achieved either through the structure of the weave or through finishing techniques.

Accents of colour and pattern are still prominent and there is an opulence and richness about the fabrics on offer. Also, there has been an interesting reaction against highly technical fabrics for sport and leisurewear in favour of fabrics with a more traditional look which has been inspired by robust old-style military outerwear.
