Lucy Siegle to host Make it British Live! 2019

Environmental journalist and broadcaster Lucy Siegle. © Suki Dhanda, the ObserverEnvironmental journalist and broadcaster Lucy Siegle will host the first day of talks at this year’s Make it British Live! event at the iconic Business Design Centre, London, on 29 May. A familiar face on prime-time TV, Lucy has worked across channels on different formats, as well as having a longstanding connection to The One Show, on BBC1.

“Sustainability and the responsibility of UK manufacturers to the fashion industry and its future will be high on the agenda this year,” explained Kate Hills, founder of Make it British.

“That’s why we are delighted that Lucy has agreed to return to Make it British Live for a second year.  Her specialism in ecological and ethical lifestyle matters make her the perfect choice to host our panel discussions. Her passion and desire to bring sustainability to the fashion industry is laid out in her book, To Die for: Is Fashion Wearing Out The World?

The two-day event, which takes place on 29 and 30 May includes a programme of talks and panel discussions along with a trade show and an anticipated 5,000 visitors.

“Make it British Live! celebrates the very best of British manufacturing. When we launched six years’ ago, our vision was to encourage more people to buy British and make in the UK. We’re proud of our achievements. Since then we’ve brought together thousands of UK designers, manufacturers and buyers who are all passionate about making in the UK,” concluded Ms Hills.

Last year, the British sourcing event was curated by the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT) and focused on supporting young talent and establishing a strong skill base to bring the industry supply chain back together after decades of decline. The event hosted around 200 exhibitors at the Old Truman Brewery, in East London, attracting the biggest number of visitors so far.
