The 56th edition of Munich Fabric Start reaffirmed its position as a key European textile meeting point, drawing designers, buyers, and decision-makers to the Bavarian capital for two days of inspiration, innovation and networking.
With more than 600 international exhibitors and around 1,200 collections, the trade show once again presented its established show-in-show concepts – Bluezone, Keyhouse, Sustainable Innovations and The Source – under one roof at the MOC Munich. This closer integration of formats encouraged cross-sector exchange, positioning the event as a hub for collaboration across fashion, textiles and denim.
Bluezone highlighted denim’s ongoing transition, where sustainability and innovation have become defining forces. Around 40 international mills showcased pioneering dyeing methods, circular approaches and functional performance. Highlights included Tejidos Royo’s fabric made from 100% pre-consumer recycled cotton, ISKO’s Recode Denim concept, and Calik Denim’s Comfort Stretch innovations. The newly launched Homegrown Denim Legends series paid tribute to denim heritage in the DACH region, spotlighting influential figures and local brands.
Keyhouse and Sustainable Innovations served as accelerators for systemic change, focusing on digitalisation, transparency, new sourcing strategies and materials research. A programme of almost 50 events brought together over 40 international experts. Among the speakers, Tommy Hilfiger’s Vice President of Sustainability Thijs Maartens stressed the importance of reducing dependence on virgin materials, while Muchaneta ten Napel of Shape Innovate presented her Roadmap 2035 as a call to action on circularity.
The Autumn.Winter 26/27 trend forums carried the theme Right Here Right Now, translating today’s complex zeitgeist into five key directions: Conversant, At Ease, Night Call, Untamed and Elite. Exhibitors reported strong interest in textured fabrics, faux furs, warm earthy tones and checks, with many buyers highlighting the breadth of choice across both commercial and more experimental designs.
Despite ongoing pressures in the wider market, the atmosphere was widely described as upbeat. “The mood at the show is good – everyone we expected was here,” said Simon Leppich of Nilörn Germany, while Aylin Aksu of Ecopel noted strong demand for bio-based fake furs. Visitors from leading global brands such as adidas, Armedangels, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc O’Polo, Oui and Porsche reinforced the international reach of the fair.
Looking ahead, the organisers are considering moving the Autumn.Winter 27/28 edition from September to mid/late July 2026 to better align with industry timelines. The next event, presenting Spring.Summer 27, will return to the MOC Munich from 27–29 January 2026.
