London based JDD Furniture has launched Nita, a sustainable seating pod crafted from reclaimed ocean plastic and designed to combine workplace comfort with environmental responsibility. The pod is upholstered exclusively in Seaqual yarn, a premium material made from marine plastic waste, including PET bottles, discarded fishing gear and ocean-bound debris, sourced through global coastal clean-up networks.

Victoria Galobart, head of marketing at Seaqual, said: “To this day, we have transformed over 400 tons of plastic retrieved from the world’s oceans, and thanks to products like JDD Furniture’s Nita, that number is increasing every day.”

In partnership with textile specialist Camira, JDD uses a 3D digital knitting process called Camira Knit to upholster each pod with zero waste and high precision. This technology removes the need for traditional offcuts, delivering a seamless, tailored finish.

Darren Hill, head of Camira Knit Development and Operations, described the collaboration as “a fully bespoke, zero-waste solution that eliminates the need for cutting and sewing… demonstrating that beautiful design and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.”

The pod’s shell is inspired by natural leaf and petal forms, with a gradient knit pattern that adds privacy while contributing to the visual appeal. A distinctive halo light offers both functional illumination and a calming ambience, while the design supports a variety of workplace uses, from focused tasks to social interaction.

Henry Watson, head of product design at JDD Furniture, said: “Nita began as a response to two key challenges: the global issue of plastic pollution and the lack of dedicated spaces in workplaces for employees to decompress. Inspired by tulips and flower petals, we created a statement piece that is playful, bold and unafraid to challenge convention.”

Nita is now available to view at JDD Furniture’s London showroom, with guided tours bookable via showroom manager Victor Castillo.
