Steiger Participations SA, the Swiss flat knitting machine manufacturer, is preparing for the future of its operations in Vionnaz with plans to construct a new industrial hall at the rear of its existing site. The modern two-storey building will cover a total area of 2,400 square metres and is the result of a collaboration opportunity with a client, supporting the company’s strategic development.
Half of the new hall is expected to be occupied by a partner specialising in the production of sports shoes in China and Vietnam using Steiger technology. The partner aims to move closer to Western customers by setting up a showroom and installing machines to host designers from major international brands for rapid prototyping activities.
This direct proximity to users is expected to allow Steiger to influence the ongoing development of its machines and better anticipate future market needs.
The remaining space will be dedicated to Steiger’s own activities. For many years, the company has focused on niche applications such as medical textiles, high-end fashion and technical knitwear. Looking ahead, Steiger is considering the creation of an innovation centre dedicated to smart textiles integrating sensors, with potential applications including humanoid robotics.
Founded in Switzerland, Steiger is internationally recognised for its advanced flat knitting solutions and has a long heritage of innovation in electronic knitting technology. The company operates as part of the Cixing Group, its Chinese parent company.
Cixing, based in China, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of computerised flat knitting machines, supplying customers globally across apparel, technical and industrial knitting sectors. Through the integration of Steiger’s Swiss engineering expertise and Cixing’s industrial scale, the group aims to accelerate innovation and strengthen its global market presence.
Construction of the new facility is expected to begin shortly, with the premises scheduled to be available by the end of 2026. The investment is intended to anchor Steiger’s activities in Vionnaz over the long term.
