Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Edition will once again place sustainability at the heart of its showcase as the textile and fashion industry continues to advance towards eco-conscious production. Taking place from 2 to 4 September 2025 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, the event promises to spotlight sustainable solutions such as biodegradable fibres, waterless dyeing, and eco-certifications, solidifying its reputation as a leading platform for green innovation.

With fashion contributing roughly 10% of global carbon emissions annually, the path toward meaningful decarbonisation is critical yet complex. Intertextile has long provided a vital space for industry players to track trends, access technical advancements, and understand evolving regulations related to sustainable practices.

Central to this year’s edition is the Econogy Hub, a dedicated area supporting suppliers of sustainable products and services. Nearly 40 exhibitors featured in the previous edition, and major organisations such as Bureau Veritas Group, Hohenstein, Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), IDFL Laboratory and Institute, and TESTEX are confirmed to return. They will be joined by newcomers including bluesign technologies (Switzerland), Control Union World Group (Netherlands), and Itochu Corporation (Japan), broadening the scope of international participation.

Commenting on last year’s event, Marc Sidler, Group CMO at Testex AG, said: “Intertextile is the most important apparel fabrics fair on the planet. The fair has become much greener… but what remains unchanged is the human interaction – this is the essence of trade fairs.”

Beyond the Hub, sustainability will also be showcased through the Econogy Check – an independent verification system aligned with over 100 global standards. Exhibitors passing the Check are highlighted in the Econogy Finder, an online tool aiding buyers in sourcing verified, environmentally responsible products.

Notable global brands such as Covation Biomaterials (USA), Fidlock (Germany), Henglun Textile (Vietnam), Birla Cellulose (India), Lenzing (Austria), Reda (Italy), Taijin Textile (Korea), and Toray Industries (Japan) have previously leveraged the Finder to connect with sustainability-minded clients.

Gunjan Tarika, Country Head of Birla Cellulose, commented: “Sustainability has become crucial. Most buyers want sustainable products that also offer measurable environmental impact, such as carbon reduction and water conservation.”

Visitor feedback further underscores the value of these initiatives. Ricky Osborne, Managing Director of Jatu Clothing & PPE, said: “The Econogy Check offers verification for our clients… It saves us time and resources while building trust between traders.”

The fair, co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, CCPIT-Tex, and the China Textile Information Centre, will run concurrently with Yarn Expo Autumn, CHIC, and PH Value, bringing together the full textile value chain under one roof.
