Tollegno 1900 and Sandonini present shoes of the future

Sandonini, specialising in rebuilding hosiery, socks, seamless and finishing machinery, together with Tollegno 1900, an Italian producer of fine yarns and fabrics, have developed a new shoe collection using Sandonini’s ShoeSocks 3D technology and Tollegno 1900’s Harmony 4.0 yarn (in the 2/30 version). The result of the partnership was presented to the international audience at the Filo trade fair in Milan this week.

Harmony 4.0 yarn is made from extra fine Merino wool for outer knitwear and is said to combine a number of features. These include easy care, improved thanks to the combined action of a consolidated industrial process and the use of new resins making the yarn unshrinkable. Another benefit is improved resistance and greater elongation thanks to the compact process, which controls and aligns fibres protruding from the roving into a parallel position. Finally, the yarn is also water repellent, achieved using “environmentally friendly substances”, according to the manufacturer.

“We decided to test the Harmony 4.0 yarn because it is a very high-performance wool, created by a leader in its field as we are in the world of textile machines, and because Tollegno 1900 is a company constantly striving for innovation as we are, with a great desire to experiment with new paths,” explained Fiorenzo Sandonini, owner of the company.

Sandonini developed its ShoeSocks concept, created using an innovative, high-tech hosiery machine, in November last year. The company says its ShoeSocks machines help cut production costs by reducing time and waste. The 3D knitted shoe uppers are made in one piece and are ready to fit on a form and be attached on any type of sole. Manufactured during a quick, three-minute, and waste-free production process, and available in any colour or design, the flexible technology allows the creation of any type of knitting stitches, as well as fast change of style, model and size, according to the company.

“We are proud to have been chosen for this very innovative project, because it allows us to show the strengths of our yarn in an unusual trendy product for wool, ideal in a market that is in constant evolution,” commented Lincoln Germanetti, CEO of Tollegno 1900.

“The collaboration with Sandonini is then a concrete example of our way of working: through collaborations with interesting partners where the creation and development of new items goes hand in hand with the search for new uses for our yarns.”
